OAKLAND, Calif. —

Oakland police have shut down streets while they investigate two suspicious packages discovered at 16th Street and Telegraph Avenue.

The packages were found next to a mailbox, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.

Traffic has been disrupted, and police are advising motorists to avoid the area.

The streets were later reopened after authorities determined that the packages were harmless, an Oakland Police spokesperson informed KTVU.
