HAYWARD, Calif. —
Two officers were injured when a man rammed a stolen car into a police vehicle before prompting a chase in Hayward early Tuesday morning, a police sergeant said.
Police attempted to block a suspected stolen vehicle spotted on Mission Boulevard and Sorenson Road around 1 a.m. There were two people inside the allegedly stolen car, police Sgt. Ken Forkus said.
The driver, identified only as a 41-year-old Hayward man, intentionally rammed into one of the patrol vehicles, which then spun and hit the second patrol vehicle, Forkus said.
The two officers in the rammed vehicles were taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released, he said.
The suspect then drove off and other responding officers pursued the duo down Mission Boulevard.
About two miles away, the suspect crashed into a parked car at the dead-end of Groom Street. The two then got out of the car and attempted to run away, but police caught them, Forkus said.
The driver was arrested on evasion, car theft and resisting arrest charges.
His passenger, who was not identified, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer, according to Forkus.
Two other parked cars were hit by the suspects during the chase.
