Santa Cruz police and sheriff's deputies have arrested three men suspected of a May 10 crime spree of burglary, arson, auto theft and stolen cash, credit and debit cards, a Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said Friday.
After a two-week joint investigation, police and deputies arrested David Archuleta, 30, of Scotts Valley; Robert Bombaci, 22, of Santa Cruz; and Adam Jones, 27, of Santa Clara, sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy April Skalland said.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on May 10, three men committed a burglary in DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz and stole a white maintenance truck, Skalland said.
They drove the truck to a Hertz car rental in the 7000 block of Soquel Drive where they tried and failed to break into the front glass window.
The men then forced their way into a nearby auto service business and stole a safe containing cash, credit cards and debit cards, Skalland said
The men drove the truck to Carbonera Drive west of state Highway 17 in unincorporated Santa Cruz County and got out and set the vehicle on fire.
Santa Cruz police officers sent to the scene located evidence from the DeLaveaga Park burglary in the burned truck, Skalland said.
The suspects used a stolen debit card to withdraw money at the Bay Federal Credit Union on River Street in Santa Cruz, then bought two money orders for $870 at a mini-mart on Water Street.
They used stolen credit cards to make multiple purchases at a Safeway supermarket on Morrissey Boulevard and a stolen debit card to buy things at a Safeway on 41st Avenue.
Police officers and deputies used surveillance videos from a number of cameras at the businesses to gather evidence, which culminated in the arrests of Archuleta, Bombaci and Jones, Skalland said.
They were arrested on suspicion of burglary, arson, conspiracy and auto theft in the city and county, Skalland said.
