SAN FRANCISCO —
Two men have been arrested for reportedly trying to rob a local TV news crew who were reporting on a story in San Francisco’s Bayview District Friday night, according to authorities.
San Francisco Police released a statement Saturday announcing the arrests of Armani McFarland and John Woods, both 19-year-old San Francisco residents, on charges related to the attempted robbery of a KRON 4 reporter and a security guard the evening before that resulted in an injury shooting.
Officers received a report of a shooting in the area of Third Street and LaSalle Avenue around 8 p.m., Sgt. Danielle Newman said Friday.
Investigators said that the shooting resulted from two armed men trying to rob a KRON-4 reporter when the reporter's security guard opened fire.
KRON4 later reported on its Web site that reporter Jeff Bush handed over his equipment after he and the station's security guard were accosted by two armed men. Bush then took cover and the security guard opened fired on the two men.
Bush and the security guard were unharmed during the incident.
One of the suspects was wounded in the leg and was treated afterward at San Francisco General Hospital, according to police.
Police stated that both suspects were arrested on robbery and conspiracy charges, while McFarland also faced a firearm charge.
Both men were in custody of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department Saturday, according to the statement.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
