A coin shop's business card led to the arrest of a Eureka man and a Sonoma Valley teen in connection with a rash of residential burglaries in the Sonoma Valley area, a sheriff's sergeant said Monday.

A sheriff's deputy contacted Harvey Joe Adkins, 28, of Eureka, inside a parked car in the 20200 block of Fifth Street West in Sonoma around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Michael Raasch said.

Adkins was wanted on two outstanding warrants for transportation of drugs and failure to appear in court in Tehama County, Raasch said.

Inside the car, deputies found collectible coins, passports and social security cards belonging to two Sonoma Valley residents whose homes had recently been burglarized, Raasch said.

Adkins was arrested on the two warrants and for possession of stolen property, and booked into Sonoma County Jail on $310,000 bail, Raasch said.

Sheriff's detectives learned that Adkins was in possession of a coin shop's business card, and discovered that Adkins had gone there on three consecutive days starting on Feb. 18 to sell rare coins and jewelry to the shop owner, Raasch said.

Detectives tracked down the owners of the stolen property, which had been taken from homes in Glen Ellen, Sonoma and Santa Rosa.

When detectives reviewed surveillance video taken inside the coin shop, they identified Adkins and a second suspect, a 17-year-old Sonoma Valley boy.

During a search of the teen's bedroom, additional stolen property was found, along with three pounds of processed marijuana and packaging material, Raasch said. The teen was booked into juvenile hall for possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana for sale.

Adkins was then rearrested at the jail for residential burglary, commercial burglary and possession of stolen property, and his bail was increased to $460,000, Raasch said.
