SAN RAFAEL, Calif. —

Two men have been arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting that occurred in downtown San Rafael on Tuesday night, a police spokeswoman said.

Dispatchers received reports of shots fired and men fighting at the intersection of Fourth Street and Tamalpais Avenue around 8:15 p.m., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Arriving officers found a 26-year-old man on the ground who had been shot in the back. Witnesses told them that four male suspects had fled in a dark-colored car, Rohrbacher said.

The victim was taken to Marin General Hospital, where he underwent surgery, Rohrbacher said. He is expected to survive.

Police arrested Franklin Samuel Deleon Vicente, 24, and Jorge Luis Martinez, 20, both of San Rafael, shortly before midnight in the 200 block of Woodland Avenue, Rohrbacher said.

The men were booked into Marin County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a criminal street gang, Rohrbacher said.

They were each being held on $50,000 bail, and their first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Police are still looking for the two other suspects.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call San Rafael police at (415) 485-3000 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
