RICHMOND, Calif. —

After a chase, two men were arrested in connection with a shooting in Richmond early this morning that left one victim in critical condition, police said.

Richmond police responded to a report that shots had been fired in the 2000 block of Virginia Avenue at 12:24 a.m., Lt. Shawn Pickett said.

Officers interviewed a man that said he and his friend had been shot at by three men in a white truck.

Pickett said the other victim arrived at Kaiser Medical Center at 12:50 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. He was flown to a nearby trauma center and was listed in critical condition.

Police quickly located the truck four blocks away, which fled through city streets and onto Interstate Highway 580 heading east.

Officers pursued the truck to Albany, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the 100 block of Portland Avenue.

The three suspects fled on foot in three different directions with police in pursuit.

Police caught two of the suspects after a struggle, but the third was able to escape. Pickett said police in Albany and Berkeley were alerted to watch for the suspect.

Two officers suffered injuries while taking the suspects into custody.
