WALNUT CREEK, Calif. —

Nine people have been arrested after the latest rash of drunken violence in an area of downtown Walnut Creek popular with late night revelers, authorities said.

The most serious incident took place around 1:35 a.m. Sunday in the parking garage on the 1300 block of on Locust Street where a man was severely beaten in a crime caught on surveillance video.

Authorities said Bay Point residents Marcos Bustamante, 20, and Mario Bustamante, 23, were taken into custody as they attempted to leave the garage. According to a Walnut Creek police news release, the Bustamantes were identified by witnesses of the beating that left an unidentified man semiconscious with a bloody face.

A video tape of the incident showed the man throwing the first punches as the brothers were entering an elevator.

A few minutes later, officers were called to a large fight at the nearby Cinco de Mayo restaurant and were forced to use pepper spray to restore order, according to a police news release.

Three people were arrested at the restaurant on suspicion of fighting in public, assault and public drunkenness.

The release said police were once again called to the area at 2:25 a.m. were they received reports of a disturbance at the Hubcaps Diner.

Two people were arrested at that location as police separated two groups.

Anyone with information on the fights was asked to call Walnut Creek police at 925-943-5844.
