SAN FRANCISCO —
A women's dog was dead after a man robbed her and then threw her dog into the street in San Francisco's Tenderloin District Friday afternoon, a San Francisco police spokesman said.
The woman pulled over in the first block of Leavenworth Street around 5 p.m. to use her cellphone, according to San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy, when a suspect approached her and demanded money.
The victim complied and gave the suspect money when her dog in the car started barking. The suspect then grabbed the victim's wallet and the dog from the car, Shyy said.
The man threw the dog onto the street and then fled on foot.
The woman took the dog to the veterinarian where it succumbed to injuries from being thrown, Shyy said.
Police were searching for the suspect Saturday, who was only described as a black man in his 30s.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery was asked to call police at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
