SAN JOSE, Calif. —
Police arrested a San Jose woman Saturday in connection with a machete attack that left another San Jose woman dead Friday night, police said.
Police received a call from a residence in the 1900 block of Johnston Avenue around 11 p.m. and arriving officers found two women who had apparently been physically attacked, police said.
One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene while the second woman, Sagal Mohamod Sadiq, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening and was released, police said.
Authorities later classified Sadiq as a suspect in the homicide, and police said this afternoon that she was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of homicide.
Police said the relationship between Sadiq and the victim, as well as the motive for the homicide, remains under investigation.
It appears that the victim was killed using a machete-type weapon, which police said investigators recovered at the scene.
Police said Saturday morning that the suspect had not been found, and Sadiq's arrest was announced that afternoon.
Friday night’s death was the city's 39th homicide of the year.
