A woman was wounded late Wednesday night in a road rage shooting on Highway 880 in Hayward, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Sgt. Scott Siria said investigators were still trying to piece together what happened on the freeway.
Siria said someone in a white truck shot into a Honda Accord at about 9:49 p.m. near Marina Boulevard.
“There an altercation between two vehicles,” he said. “One shot was fired into the passenger side of the Honda Accord striking the passenger in the leg.”
The female passenger called 911 to report the shooting, but the driver continued northbound and eventually pulled off the freewayin Richmond, ending up in the parking lot of an Orchard Supply hardware store near Potrero Avenue and Interstate 80.
"The female passenger said they fled the scene for their safety, and that she called her mother and then dialed 911," CHP officer Tim Moore told the San Jose Mercury News.
She was taken the hospital and treated for his wound. Her condition was not known.
