SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. —

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Pescadero Creek in San Mateo County and flash flood warnings for San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties later Sunday afternoon.

Pescadero Creek reached flood stage levels shortly before 5 p.m. and creek levels were expected to continue rising for an hour to several hours, according to the National Weather Service alert.

Other coastal creeks were looking like they could also flood.

The Town of Pescadero was looking like it could be affected by flooding later that evening, as well as roads and trails in Butano State Park.

Campers and hikers were advised to be aware of creeks and streams, especially in hilly terrain where low crossing can become dangerous very quickly, the Weather Service said.

Residents and others in the area were told to move to higher ground and be especially cautious at night, when it is harder to see signs of flooding.
