LAFAYETTE, Calif. —

CHP are on the scene of a solo vehicle crash that has knocked down a light pole, closing three lanes of eastbound Highway 24, according to authorities.

The accident happened at about 4:17 p.m. between the Pleasant Hill Road and Mount Diablo Road exits near the I-680 interchange. The blocked lanes are causing extremely slow traffic through the area.

There was no word on whether the driver of the solo vehicle was injured. Shortly before 5 p.m., the power pole was cleared from the lanes, but by then a massive back-up had grown stretching from the site of the accident back through the Caldecott Tunnel and into Oakland.
