OAKLAND, Calif. —

After working as a freelance reporter with KTVU-TV for 8 years, Renee Kemp is leaving her position to manage a television station in Bermuda. She filed her last report for KTVU on Jan. 17, 2009.

Kemp, an Emmy Award-winning television news reporter, is moving on from KTVU-TV to become General Manager of Community Information Television (CITV) in Bermuda, an English protectorate. There, she will be overseeing operations, hosting her on talk show and, of course, reporting local news stories.

Kemp originally came to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s to work as an Anchor/Reporter for KRON-TV. For the past 8 years, she worked at KTVU-TV as a freelance reporter. She also filed stories as an international Correspondent for Black Entertainment Television (BET) in Washington, D.C.

"Renee has done a terrific job reporting for KTVU for the past 8 years and this job will provide many new challenges and rewards for her career," wrote KTVU News Director Ed Chapuis in an email. "Renee's work at KTVU makes her uniquely qualified to help guide the station. Her excellent journalistic skills and her interest in the community put her in a great position to lead a team. She is a good teacher who can help mentor young journalists in this new, exciting effort."

While living and working in the Bay Area, Kemp traveled extensively to Africa, Asia, Central America and Europe producing feature stories that have aired on BET, Fox News and CNN. A recent expose on the AIDS crisis in Africa and in the African-American community earned her an Emmy Award.

Kemp also contributed stories the Oakland Tribune and Essence magazine about her journeys to Africa.

The entire staff at KTVU wishes Kemp the best in her future endeavors and will miss her contributions to the station.
