FAIRFIELD, Calif. —
Fairfield police are investigating the shooting murder of a 20-year-old man late Wednesday night.
Police received a call around 11:55 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Utah and Hayes streets, Sgt. Jeff Osgood said.
As officers were responding, police received another call from a resident in the 1000 block of Hayes Street about a shooting victim who needed medical assistance, Osgood said.
Police found the victim unconscious in the front yard of a home. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Osgood said.
The Police Department's gang and major crimes units are investigating whether the murder is gang-related, Osgood said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the gang unit at (707) 428-7600 or Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
