VALLEJO, Calif. —

A 57-year-old man was killed and three more wounded in a shooting at a Vallejo park Saturday night, police said.

The shooting was reported around 8:15 p.m. at Crest Ranch Park in North Vallejo, police said.

Police believe that at least person opened fire on the victims from a dark-colored sedan during a barbecue at the park.

All four victims were driven to nearby hospitals.

Police said the 57-year-old man succumbed to his injuries later Saturday night at Solano Sutter Hospital. A 67-year-old woman was in critical conditional but was upgraded to stable condition Sunday and 17-year-old boy struck in the shooting both remained in critical condition.

A 35-year-old man also injured in the shooting received treatment for a bullet wound to his arm.

Police are withholding the identities of the victims - who are Vallejo residents - until family members are notified.

Investigators said they're not who you'd expect to be the targets of a shooting.

“It's tragic anytime anyone's shot but this one is especially bad,” said Lee Horton of the Vallejo Police Department. “You have a 57-year-old guy that's killed, a 67 year old woman, a child. It shows disregard on the part of the shooter.”

Police and neighbors said that kind of violence is unusual for Crest Ranch Park.

Jaime Jarramillo, a neighbor, said he was surprised by what happened.

“Nothing (like that’s happened),” he said. “I am living here 8 years and it's the first time."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Raul Munoz or Detective Todd Tribble at (800) 488-9383.
