Gang members charged with August murder of 16-year-old Oakley boy

Bay City News and Channel

ANTIOCH, Calif. —

A group of alleged gang members have been charged with the murder of a 16-year-old Oakley boy at a party in Antioch this summer, police said Wednesday.

Five Antioch men were charged with murder and gang enhancements -- and another awaits charges -- and a Brentwood woman was charged with conspiracy to commit murder against the boy, who police said was from a rival gang.

On Aug. 20, 19-year-old Leon Moreno, 18-year-old Ricky Mendoza, 19-year-old Tony Martin, 21-year-old Christopher Donaldson and 17-year-old Carlos Guzman showed up uninvited to a birthday party on Seville Circle in Antioch.

At the party, 18-year-old Brentwood resident Jessica Juarez met with the Oakley boy, her ex-boyfriend who was in a rival gang of her then-boyfriend, Guzman.

A heated argument ensued between the boy and one or more of the gang members, escalating to a physical fight that led to the shooting.

Although Guzman was not at the scene, police said that telephone records show he was en route to the party and had planned to kill the victim.

In his absence, he allegedly ordered his fellow gang members to shoot the boy.

Police are still searching for Guzman, who is being charged as an adult and is due to turn 18 this weekend.

A report released today said that Martin was also charged with the shooting of a 17-year-old girl who tried to flee the party.

She was treated for her injuries and later released from the hospital, according to the report.

Police have also arrested 18-year-old Antioch resident George Hellums, who is awaiting charges.

Antioch police officers were not available for further comment on the incident or the charges this evening.

Anyone with information on Guzman's whereabouts are asked to contact the Antioch Police Department at (925) 778-2441.
