Haight-Ashbury Restaurant Fire Displaces Six

SAN FRANCISCO —

San Francisco firefighters Tuesday morning have controlled a three-alarm fire in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The fire was reported in a three-story building at 1668 Haight Street at around 4:45 a.m., according to San Francisco fire spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge.

The fire burned through a first-floor restaurant called Tikka Masala, as well as through two flats above the restaurant, which were safely evacuated, Talmadge said.

Five adults and one child were displaced by the fire, and no one was injured.

A building next to the restaurant, Villain's Clothing, was also damaged.

The blaze was declared under control at around 6:15 a.m., Talmadge said, and the cause is still under investigation.
