SAN JOSE, Calif. —
The family of a San Jose State University student reported missing after he was last seen in a remote park in the Santa Cruz Mountains says he has been found safe.
KTVU-TV says the family of Gabriel Lorette-Smith called officials to report that he was found near the tiny community of Ben Lomond.
Santa Cruz County sheriff's Deputy April Skalland, a department spokeswoman, told the San Jose Mercury News earlier that Lorette-Smith was reported missing by another student around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Mercury News says the 22-year-old Lorette-Smith was given a ticket by a state park ranger for allegedly camping illegally in Henry Cowell State Park a few hours before he was reported missing.
The park is in an area of thick redwood forests near Ben Lomond, or about 30 miles southwest of San Jose.
