SAN FRANCISCO —
Large images of scantily clad women on a San Francisco strip club's "mobile advertising truck" has prompted enough outcry from local residents that City Hall is taking action.
The truck serves as a moving billboard advertising the Hustler Club in North Beach. It also has windows on both sides of an interior that includes a stripper pole for live dancers to use inside the truck.
Though KTVU cameras did not see the truck on the streets Tuesday, the vehicle was spotted in the community last weekend.
San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar said he has had enough of the Hustler Club's advertisement on wheels.
"My residents and others are offended by this vehicle and we want it out," said Mar.
Mar has taken a number of pictures of the Hustler Club truck. He said it has been seen frequently in his district for about a month now.
The truck's driver reportedly lives in the area and often parks the vehicle outside a library only a half a block away from nearby elementary school.
Locals are tired of the exposure neighborhood children are getting to the truck.
"In a neighborhood where there are school kids. You know, [age] five, ten," said San Francisco resident Stanley Wong. "Its really raunchy."
"It has pictures of scantily clad women and a stripper pole in the middle of it," explained Mar. "Many families feel that it's just not appropriate for our neighborhood."
SF resident Tristan Salazar sees both sides of the argument.
"Its not like the school kids are going to be like 'Oh yeah man, that's a great idea! Let's go down to the Hustler Club!'" said Salazar. "That's not going to happen."
But his problem with the truck is its lack of safety for the dancers. Salazar said the vehicle is always outside the adult club where he works on the weekends. He went on to say the club should have expected this type of backlash from the community.
"What kind of idiot do you have to be to park the thing out there in the first place?" asked Salazar.
Supervisor Mar asked representatives from Hustler to permanently remove the truck, but it kept reappearing. So now he is working with San Francisco Police to make sure it doesn't happen again.
"There is already a law that prevents commercial advertising on vehicles driving down the street or parked in a street or neighborhood," said Mar.
Supervisor Mar said police have already cited the truck and his office is looking at other infractions. Management at the Hustler Club declined to comment.
