San Jose soldier killed in Afghanistan

SAN JOSE —

A soldier from San Jose was killed in Afghanistan Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Travis A. Morgado, 25, was killed when insurgents using an improvised explosive device attacked his patrol in Zharay, Afghanistan.

Morgado was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
