21-year-old skateboarder fatally struck by car

CONCORD, Calif. —

A 21-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while he was skateboarding through a crosswalk in Concord on Friday, according to police.   

Police received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Monument Boulevard and Erickson Road at about 6:30 p.m.   

The pedestrian, a Concord resident was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, where he later died of his injuries, police said.   

The driver, a 21-year-old Clayton woman, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and traveling eastbound on Monument Boulevard, when she struck the man riding his skateboard northbound in the crosswalk at Erickson Road.   

 Police are investigating the color of the traffic light at the time of the collision, and whether alcohol or drug use was a factor in the collision.   

No arrests have been made at this time, police said.   Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact police at (925) 671-3220.
