5 people rescued from Castro Valley house fire

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. —

Alameda County firefighters said five people managed to escape to safety from inside a Castro Valley home that caught fire Saturday night.

The fire started at around 8:30 p.m. inside a house on the 4400 block of James Street in Castro Valley.

Fire officials said the homeowner spotted flames inside the home and evacuated all of the residents and called for help.

Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to other homes.

There was no word yet as to what started the fire.
