Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting a blaze that caused $500,000 worth of damage to a home in Alameda on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire at a two-story home in the 1300 block of Eighth Street was reported at 12:37 p.m., Alameda fire Capt. James Colburn said.

Crews arrived to find thick smoke and flames coming from the single-family home's front door, Colburn said.

The residents were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, he said.

A dog and cat were found deceased inside the home, fire officials said.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze at 12:54 p.m. and fully extinguished the flames at 1:30 p.m., fire officials said.

Two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries and no residents were injured, according to fire officials.

The house sustained major damage, resulting in an estimated $350,000 in damage to the structure and $150,000 to its contents.

Fire officials said the fire appears to have started in the front room of the house and has been deemed accidental.

At least three residents have been displaced as a result of the fire, according to fire officials.
