A laptop theft from an Oakland store may have led police to a suspect in robberies in nearby El Cerrito and Berkeley, authorities said.
Oakland police said they have arrested a suspect in the theft of a laptop from a t-shirt store Wednesday night that was caught on video tape.
But further investigation has revealed that the same man may be connected to other East Bay robberies.
“We do believe this is going to be related to multiple crimes from robbery to theft,” said Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson. “And we believe have one of the individuals, one of the primary individuals responsible in custody.”
El Cerrito police said the man fits the description of a suspect in a series of laptop thefts and robberies in their city.
Meanwhile, Berkeley police said he may also be connected with robbery and violent crime in that city.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
