Fire crews made quick work of a big-rig fire that was burned on the shoulder of westbound I-580 in Dublin early Friday evening, but associated lane closures on the freeway are creating a sizable traffic jam.
The truck fire was first reported at about 5:17 p.m. near the Santa Rita Road exit off of I-580. Authorities said that the big-rig fire was fully involved.
Crews responded and were able to douse the flames that appeared to be concentrated in the cab portion of the vehicle. Traffic is moving slowly through the area as crews ensured the fire was out.
A Sig-alert was issued at about 5:45 p.m. with the right lane and off-ramp blocked, Caggiano said. Fire crews had the fire out as of 5:50 p.m., he said.
The right lane reopened around 7:30 p.m., the CHP said. The Sig-alert was lifted when the off-ramp was cleared just before 9 p.m.
