SLIDESHOW: Blue Angels soar over the Golden Gate Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO —
The U.S. Navy announced Tuesday they have cancelled all 2013 performances of the Blue Angels precision flying team likely marking the first time in nine years the jets have not been a part of San Francisco’s annual Fleet Week.
In a statement released from the team’s home base in Pensacola, Fla., officials said they were cancelling the rest of the 2013 stops that were not paid for by local organizers.
“Recognizing budget realities, current Defense policy states that outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government,” the statement read. “This is one of many steps the Navy is taking to ensure resources are in place to support forces operating forward now and those training to relieve them.”
The Blue Angels have become a regular fixture in the Bay Area skies since 2004 when the team chose a Hawaii performance over Fleet Week.
Some tragedies at hospitals might be unavoidable, but a mother and father who lost their 21 month old daughter at Children's Hospital Oakland say it's what happened after their daughter's death that has continued to torment them.
