CARSON CITY, Nev. —

A woman was recovering in a Nevada hospital early Thursday thanks to her brother who refused to abandon his search for her in the Sierra wilderness.

Paula Lane was resting at the Carson Tahoe Hospital suffering from severe hypothermia.

She was discovered walking in knee-deep snow on a road off Highway 88 on Wednesday by her brother who had hiked into the wilderness area.

However, authorities said Lane’s boyfriend -- Roderick Clifton – did not survive the ordeal.

Citrus Heights police spokesman Officer Bryan Fritsch said the couple had disappeared after leaving a Sacramento suburb during bad weather on a drive through the Sierra Nevada last week.

Authorities said the couple’s SUV had become stuck and they found themselves stranded on a road that connected to Highway 88.

Clifton apparently tried to hike back to the road on Thursday, but died in the attempt.

Lane discovered his body as she attempted to hike to the road on Wednesday.

Authorities said a search had failed to locate the couple, but Lane’s family would not give up on the effort and searched on their own.
