SAN LEANDRO, Calif. —

All lanes on southbound Interstate Highway 880, just north of Interstate Highway 238, are open after a gas leak closed two lanes for several hours Wednesday in San Leandro, the California Highway Patrol said.

The gas leak was first reported flowing from containers on a big-rig onto the two slow lanes at about 9:20 a.m., CHP Officer Scott Cakebread said.

A Sig-alert was issued nearly an hour and a half later, at 10:44 a.m., when the lanes remained closed, Cakebread said.

There was also a collision in the area of the leak, but Cakebread said the lane closures are from the leak.

The No. 4 lane reopened at 1:45 p.m., the CHP said.

The Sig-alert was canceled at 4:07 p.m. after the slow lane was cleared of all the gas.

Drivers should expect residual delays.
