HALF MOON BAY, Calif. —

A 49-year-old crab fisherman working off the San Mateo County coast died after getting tangled in a line attached to a crab trap, which pulled him overboard.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said the deckhand -- whom they did not identify pending notification of next of kind -- died Monday evening after being admitted to a local hospital.

The crab boat was operating about 4 miles off the coast of Pescadero on Monday afternoon when the incident occurred.

The fisherman's fellow crew members pulled him from the water and administered CPR before he was transferred to a U.S. Coast Guard vessel and taken ashore.

The sheriff said the victim was a resident of South San Francisco.
