SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA —

A high surf advisory is in place along the Bay Area coast until Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Big waves and surf are expected throughout the day with the advisory to remain in effect until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service warns that the surf at deep water breaks will range from 17 to 22 feet today.

Weather experts advise there are strong rip currents and that fisherman should avoid fishing from rocks.

Beachgoers run the risk getting washed into the sea because of powerful breaking waves.
