EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. —

Officials have been scrambling to repair a levee in East Palo Alto that was breached during heavy rains over the weekend.

The Palo Alto Daily News reportsĀ  that crews on Monday planned to place sandbags wrapped in plastic sheeting where the San Francisquito Creek topped the levee the previous night.

Water also seeped through the levee and bubbled up from the ground. Crews planned to excavate, refill and compact the area around the leakages.

The goal was to finish the work ahead of the next storm system due in on Tuesday.

Sunday's flooding forced the evacuation of seven homes. East Palo Alto Mayor Ruben Abrica says at least one home suffered damage that made it uninhabitable.
