LOS GATOS, Calif. —
A public display of affection is getting a lot of attention in Los Gatos. On some nights, the Los Gatos Main Street Bridge can have a romantic feel, so much so that it's become a place where several people have attached padlocks to links on a fence proclaiming their love. But along the same fence is a sign that says the locks of love are about to be clipped. The sign said the bridge is owned by Caltrans and the 25 locks will be removed on Feb. 1, which disappointed many of the people KTVU spoke with Thursday night. "I think it's charming," said Webb Knudsen, a Los Gatos resident. "I like it. I think it's a cute little thing that people have done." Tim and Carolyn du Clos started the display back in August by engraving a padlock to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They got the idea after seeing similar landmarks locked up by lovers around the world. "It's very sweet," said Susan Sargent of San Jose. "I think we need more not less." The du Clos said they will fight for their locks and hope to convince Caltrans and the town of Los Gatos to keep their love and the love of others on display.
