A man died in a bus zone outside the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland this morning, but no foul play is suspected, a BART spokeswoman said.
BART received a call at 8:21 a.m. today from someone reporting that a man had collapsed in the bus zone. Initial reports indicated that the man was still conscious and breathing, according to BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver.
Oakland firefighters responded at 8:28 a.m. and performed CPR on the middle-aged man but were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at 8:50 a.m., Salaver said.
The Alameda County coroner's bureau will perform an autopsy on the man to determine what caused his death, she said.
The incident didn't affect BART service, Salaver said.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
