A man was struck and killed by a train north of the San Carlos Caltrain station Wednesday afternoon, transit agency spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
The man was hit by southbound train No. 146 at 1:55 p.m. near Bragato Road just north of the San Carlos border in Belmont, according to Dunn. She said there is no vehicle or pedestrian crossing at that spot.
About 125 passengers were on board the train, and none were injured, she said.
All service to the Redwood City and San Carlos stations has been halted. SamTrans will provide a bus shuttle between the Redwood City, San Carlos and Belmont stations, according to Dunn. SamTrans will honor all Caltrain tickets.
Northbound train No. 147 was stopped in Redwood City with 300 passengers on board. As of 1:30 p.m., about 100 of those passengers had opted to use the bus bridge. That train will return to San Jose, and southbound train No. 150 will be turned around at the Belmont station and head north, according to Dunn.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
