SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. —

Authorities confirmed early Friday evening that missing 21-year-old Scotts Valley resident Matthew Abraham has been located in Salt Lake City.

The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department issued a press release stating that Abraham is currently in the custody of Salt Lake City Police, who are evaluating the young man's medical condition.

Abraham's parents are making arrangements to reunite with their son.

The search for the young man began Thursday morning after family discovered him missing from their Scotts Valley home. Bill and Karen Abraham said son Matthew suffered a severe concussion a week ago in a bike accident and remained disoriented and unpredictable.

The good news that Matthew had been located came only hours after authorities had confirmed that a person who resembled the missing man had been videotaped by a surveillance camera at a gas station was Abraham.

Abraham's parents told KTVU seeing the video taped images of Matthew Friday brought much-needed relief.

"I was pretty relieved, said Bill Abrahams. "I didn't show it. I'm kind of holding it all inside."

"You are not," said his wife with a laugh. "I'm just glad he's looking good. But it just opens up a whole new can of worms, because he's really not within our loving arms."

The video changed the investigation into Abraham's disappearance, but authorities and family were unsure why he would have ended up in Utah.

"His desire to leave is probably related to his head injury, but we've ruled out that he's been kidnapped or that there's some foul play to the situation," said Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Carney.

Earlier Friday, a bus driver reported dropping off a man who looked like Abraham on Thursday at a truck stop, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

The bus driver claimed to have seen Abraham board the Megabus vehicle in San Francisco at about 8:15 a.m. and get off at about 1 p.m. at the Petro Sparks Truck Stop, Carney said.

Abraham's disappearance prompted a search effort by the Santa Cruz County Search and Rescue Team in the Scotts Valley area on Thursday and Friday, though the search was suspended after word of the sighting by the bus driver came to light.
