ORINDA, Calif. —

A big rig lost its trailer on Highway 24 during Wednesday’s morning commute, leaving five damaged vehicles strewn across the freeway and slowing traffic for miles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said it took about two hours to clear the collision that had blocked all lanes on eastbound state Highway 24 in Orinda.

Bartlett said the crash was reported at 6:08 a.m. on Highway 24 by Wilder Road.

Two people were transported to a hospital to be treated for major injuries, but Bartlett said he was unsure whether the injuries were considered life threatening.

Bartlett said a big-rig lost a trailer and around five vehicles hit the trailer, causing the blockage.
