ANTIOCH, Calif. —
Firefighters are investigating a suspected arson fire that ended in significant damage to an Antioch home Saturday afternoon and one arrest, a fire marshal said.
The fire was reported just before noon at a single-family house in the 1900 block of Deodar Avenue, Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District said.
Fire crews arriving on the scene saw smoke and flames coming from the front of the house. No residents were at home when the fire broke out, and no fire personnel were injured, Broschard said.
The flames spread from the home's front room to the attic, causing an estimated $75,000 in damage to the building, the fire marshal said.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control around 12:10 p.m.
Evidence found during the fire attack led to the arrest of one person on suspicion of arson.
Broschard said a civil dispute was reported at the home earlier Saturday, but it is unclear whether that incident and the fire are related.
He said he did not know if the suspect lived at the house.
A family of five has been displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross has been summoned to provide housing assistance, the fire marshal said.
An investigation into the possible arson is ongoing.
