A registered nurse at Napa State Hospital was assaulted by a patient Sunday night, hospital officials said.
The assault occurred inside a facility unit at 6:5o p.m. Sunday and the nurse activated an alarm ID tag, which set off an alarm throughout the facility, said Ralph Montano, a spokesman for the Napa State Hospital.
Other hospital staff members responded immediately and the suspect was arrested by hospital police, Montano said.
The suspect was transported to Napa County Detention Center, hospital officials said.
Police are continuing to investigate the attack.
Montano would not comment on the nature of the assault or extent of injuries.
The names and ages of the suspect and victim are unknown.
