SAN LEANDRO, Calif. —

All lanes have reopened on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro, but an overpass has been partially closed and the highway could see closures again Wednesday night as inspectors check the overpass for possible damage from crushed cars that fell from a truck, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP received reports that three crushed cars had fallen off of a carrier onto northbound Highway 880 just south of Marina Boulevard at about 2:30 p.m.

Two vehicles traveling on the highway collided with the crushed cars that fell, but no major injuries were reported, the CHP said.

A Sig-alert was issued at about 4 p.m. advising that the northbound left lanes of the highway were closed.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the CHP determined that the eastbound lanes of the Marina Boulevard overcrossing would need to be closed as some of the crushed cars hit it and might have damaged it.

Highway 880 had been cleared of debris and reopened, but might be partially closed again tonight when inspectors arrive sometime after 6 p.m. to create room to work.

Eastbound lanes of the Marina Boulevard overpass are expected to be closed for at least several hours.
