SAN FRANCISCO —

A train fatally hit a pedestrian on the Caltrain tracks in San Jose Tuesday afternoon, a Caltrain spokeswoman said.

The pedestrian was hit by northbound train No. 263 south of the San Jose Diridon station at about 4:05 p.m., spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann said.

Transit police were on the scene of the accident investigating the possible cause.

There was one passenger onboard the train, which had just departed Tamien station to begin its Northbound service.

The accident marked the third fatality of the year that has taken place along the Caltrain corridor. All three remain under investigation.

Trains are able to single track through the area. Passengers traveling south of Diridon should expect a delay due to speed reductions through the incident site. A bus bridge is under consideration for trains operating south of the Diridon Station.
