BAY AREA —

Several large outages were affecting thousands of PG&E customers in the Bay Area Tuesday, a utility spokesman said.

Some 6,000 customers in the downtown Berkeley area lost power at 10:50 a.m., according to spokesman Jason King.

By 11:40 a.m., power had been restored to about 700 customers, and King said power should be back to most of the other affected customers by 1 p.m.

The area that lost power is along Martin Luther King Jr. Way between University Ave and Berryman St, he said.

In the North Bay, an outage that began at 10:37 a.m. was affecting about 1,200 customers in Lagunitas, Forest Knolls, San Geronimo and Nicasio, King said.

The outage occurred in an area along Lucas Valley Road from Nicasio east to Skywalker Roach and south to San Geronimo. Those customers were expected to have power restored around 2 p.m., King said.

A third major outage in Los Altos was reported around 10:30 a.m.

About 800 customers were affected by the outage. Power was expected to be back by 1:30 p.m., King said.

PG&E was still investigating what caused all of the outages Tuesday afternoon.
