DAVIS, Calif. —

Officials at the University of California, Davis say a junior researcher has been injured in a small explosion at an apartment on campus, and police have found chemicals inside the building.

UC Davis spokesman Andy Fell says police were called to the apartment around 1:30 a.m. Thursday by hospital officials after the resident sought treatment for a hand injury.

The building, which has four apartments in it, has been evacuated. Fell says police were preparing to search it and clear out the material.

Fell says he does not know what the person was doing with the chemicals when the explosion occurred.
