A barn fire destroyed a salvaged-wood furniture business in San Jose early Tuesday morning, a fire captain said.
The fire was reported around 10:45 p.m. Monday at a barn on Emado Avenue off of Monterey Road, San Jose fire Capt. Cleo Doss said.
The building houses Terra Amico, a business that uses salvaged wood to make furniture for commercial and residential spaces.
There was a limited water supply for fighting the blaze, and four water tenders had to be brought to the scene, Doss said. The blaze was eventually controlled at 12:31 a.m.
The 10,000-square-foot barn was a total loss, but no injuries were reported, Doss said.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second fire in that area in a week, Doss said. Several buildings at the Padula Lumber Co., located at 8149 Monterey Road about half a mile away, were destroyed in a three-alarm fire last Tuesday.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
