SAN JOSE, Calif. —

A two-alarm fire in San Jose Tuesday night destroyed several vehicles and a boat on 15th Street off Taylor near San Jose's Japantown.

Firefighters were initially told a house and garage were on fire and more than one person was inside trying to get out.

Firefighters called for a second alarm at about 7:30 p.m. and requested several ambulances.

Once firefighters arrived on the scene, they said flames were 50 feet high and a person told them something that made them even more concerned.

"Initial reports from a citizen stated that this was a potential meth lab," said Captain Reggie Williams of the San Jose Fire Department. "We've determined that to be not valid. There's nothing illegal going on whatsoever in this particular garage."

KTVU was told an assistant principal at San Jose High School and her family live at the home.

A Corvette was inside the garage and two vehicles and a boat were outside. All were destroyed.

The house next door also had some minor damage.

A fire cause investigator was on the scene to determine what started the fire.
