SAN FRANCISCO —
Two more San Francisco Symphony concert were canceled Saturday due to a strike by musicians, according to symphony officials.
Saturday night's 8 p.m. and concert and Sunday's scheduled 2 p.m. performance were both canceled today as symphony officials and musicians continued contract talks. Symphony officials will make an announcement Sunday on the status of the symphony's three-day East Coast tour, which is scheduled to start March 20.
Symphony musicians announced the strike on Wednesday, prompting the symphony to cancel concerts starting Thursday.
The musicians are unhappy with a proposal by management that would include a pay freeze in the first year and 1 percent increases in the next two years.
Although they make an average of more than $165,000, the third-highest total for a symphony in the country, the musicians say expensive instruments and the costs of living in the Bay Area hurt their ability to compete with other top orchestras.
Patrons with tickets to cancelled concerts can exchange them for another concert, donate their tickets or get a refund, officials said today.
The fate of Sunday's scheduled matinee performance will be announced by later tonight, officials said.
Information about the options is available by calling the symphony's box office at (415) 864-6000 or visiting online at www.sfsymphony.org.
