SUNNYVALE, Calif. —

Roughly 6,500 PG&E customers in Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills lost power after a car collided into a power pole in Sunnyvale Sunday morning, a utility spokeswoman said.

The outage was first reported at about 3:15 a.m., affecting 6,500 customers, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

A car collided into a pole, Morris said. Tree branches came down in the accident as well, bringing down wires, she said.

The car accident was reported on Homestead Road in Sunnyvale, but customers in Cupertino were most affected by the outage, Morris said.

At about 8:30 a.m., police told KTVU that no charges would be brought against the driver in the accident.

By about 4:40 a.m., nearly half of the affected customers had their power restored, she said.

As of 5:30 a.m., all but 1,547 customers had their power restored.

Power was  restored to all customers around 10 a.m. Sunday morning, Morris said.
