SAN JOSE, Calif. —

San Jose firefighters are responding to a two-alarm house fire in the eastern foothills.

The fire on Higuera Road near Quail Canyon Road was reported around 3:20 p.m., Fire Captain Rob Brown said Sunday.

Firefighters were able to see a column of smoke from some distance away. The roof of the 3,200 square foot, two-story single family home was fully involved in flames when they arrived on scene, Brown said.

The house has sustained extensive damage, especially to the second floor, Brown said.

Six residents were displaced from the home. They were all able to evacuate safely, with no injuries reported, Brown said.

While it is still too early to pinpoint the fire's cause, Brown said the roof appeared to be a likely point of origin. The residents told firefighters they had a fire going in the fireplace when the fire broke out.
