PASADENA, Calif. —
Murder charges were filed today against two alleged gang members involved in a Pasadena crash that killed an 11-year-old Daly City boy and a relative on Christmas Day, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Darrell Lee Williams, 22, was driving a silver Dodge Durango with Brittany Michelle Washington, 21, in the passenger seat and two passengers in the back when he allegedly struck a minivan carrying 11-year-old Kendrick Ng and his family, according to district attorney's office spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
They were allegedly fleeing from police at a high speed at the time of the crash, which occurred around 8 p.m. at an on-ramp to Interstate Highway 210 at Marengo Avenue, Pasadena Deputy Police Chief Darryl Qualls said.
Police had attempted to stop the Durango after it was seen rolling through a stop sign near the scene of a shooting investigation.
In addition to Kendrick Ng, the crash killed Tracey Ong Tan, 25, of Glendale, and seriously injured three other people, two adults and a 16-year-old girl, in the minivan.
Four people in the Dodge were treated for minor injuries and initially arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, according to Qualls.
Prosecutors today filed two counts of murder against Williams, a Pasadena resident, and Washington, a Los Angeles resident, as well as three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count each of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and gang allegations, according to Gibbons.
Prosecutors have declined to charge the two passengers riding in the back seat of the Durango, Gibbons said.
If convicted, Williams and Washington face up to life in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department.
