The body of a janitor at the Redwood City Grocery Outlet was discovered late Thursday night crushed inside an industrial cardboard baler, state officials said.
Peter Melton, a CalOsha spokesman, said the 43-year-old man’s body was discovered by a co-worker at 10 p.m. He was declared dead at the scene.
Thomas McMahon, vice president of retail operations, said the dead man had been with the company for a while. He said grief counselors were at the store helping employees deal with the death.
“It was an unfortunate accident, “he told KTVU. “Our hearts go out to our employee’s family and friends. He was a great employee and as a family-owned company we are greatly sadden by the loss. “ Melton said the incident remained under investigation.
